Sing the Light

In the fall of 2019, I was in a trance-state while meditating. I felt a strong tingling in my palms and when I opened my eyes, I had a vision that a golden stream of healing light was shooting out of my hands! The vision ended after a few moments, but the tingling never did. For months, I had no idea what the constant tingling in my hands meant, or why every time I touched someone in pain, their pain went away. After months of research, I decided to take my first Reiki course and I learned that indeed, what I was experiencing was Reiki—I had already been attuned by the universe and had somehow opened my own energy channels for healing!

When I received my universal attunement to Reiki last year, I was so awed by the beauty, magic, and possibility of God’s Infinite Universe that singing completely lost its luster for me.

This... is a problem when you’re a professional singer.

I had found my true calling, and was feeling more authentically myself than I’d ever felt before. I was a healer, coming into my own, and...it had nothing to do with music. I seriously considered quitting singing in favor of starting a full time Reiki practice (then COVID-19 hit and now the opera industry is basically on life support anyways, so the universe made that decision for me—at least for the time being—but I DIGRESS). So many of my friends told me, “you can do both”, and I knew that was true. But I just couldn’t see a way to feel authentic in my music making anymore.

The ratio of work-to-reward is so toxically skewed in the music industry, and why put that much of myself into a singing career when the monetary reward is abysmal and the spiritual and emotional reward felt so much greater with Reiki?

Then I talked to James Mowdy of OperaInnovation and Jonathan Morgan of DominantArts.Design and they literally changed my entire way of thinking about it. They encouraged me to not just “do both” and keep them separate, but to find the unifying thread and MARRY THEM!

In my Reiki practice I work a lot with opening and  balancing chakras. Chakras are energy centers mapped throughout the body. Fun science fact: the endocrine system is made up of seven pairs of glands (adrenals/suprarenals, testes/ovaries, pancreas, thymus, thyroids/parathyroids, pineal and pituitary) which are all located in the same mapping as the seven main Chakras. Coincidence? I think not! For those who are unfamiliar, the Third Eye is the chakra that sits in the middle of your forehead, and it is considered the seat of wisdom and understanding. We’re not talking about college education and trivia knowledge here, but rather one’s understanding of the possibilities of the multidimensional universe. With your physical eyes, you can see the reality of what’s right in front of you: what IS. But with your Third Eye, you can see what’s all around you: what CAN BE. The Third Eye helps us problem solve, and I was feeling so stuck with this dichotomy of Reiki vs music because my Third Eye was completely shut to the possibilities of a union between them! And then James and Jonathan challenged me to ask myself important questions I never would have asked because I couldn’t even see my way to this solution.

They opened my Third Eye!

Sometimes we all need a little help to push us in the right direction. Just because I’m a lightworker doesn’t mean I’m always enlightened! My third eye was closed to those possibilities, and I couldn’t have seen where this was going without that nudge. After weeks of meditating and questioning, and hours of conversations with Jonathan about the unifying threads, I’d finally come to my epiphany.

And so, #singthelight was born.

I decided that to really reinvigorate my love for music, I would need to infuse it with Reiki. Not only would I channel Reiki to myself, my colleagues, and the performance space, but I’d also channel Reiki directly to the audience!  After all, music is transcendent, it has an ability to touch the soul and soothe the spirit, and so does Reiki—just in a different way. So now, instead of quitting music, I’m really looking forward to returning to live performance! When a concertgoer buys a ticket to hear me sing, they’ll be receiving group Reiki as an audience member!

As a Reiki Master, it is my mission to help a new generation come to consciousness and ascend to their own universal calling. But as an opera singer, my goal is to not only transport audiences through beautiful music, but to help them reach their next level of ascension by singing the Reiki right into them!

To connect with an audience on a quantum level is going to change the way we all experience opera and I’m so excited about it I could burst!

All of this—the Reiki, the Music, and #singthelight—will make up my “life practice” (it’s so much more than a business or a company or a brand—it’s literally my most authentic me in practice every day): Ascending Arts. In every way, I’ll be working hard to help my clients and my audience find the art of their own ascension.

Welcome to Ascending Arts - it’s my honor to hold this space for you.
